The Heirloom Portrait began with two friends, engineers and artists, who believed a portrait worth passing down should not require a studio appointment or a painter's waiting list. For most of history a formal portrait was a privilege. We wanted that same sense of occasion to be within reach of any family, made from the comfort of home.

So we built a studio you can visit from your kitchen table. You bring the photographs you already love, choose a style, and we render your portrait as fine art, with the depth, richness and craft of a classic portrait house. You see the result before you decide anything, and only keep it if it feels like the people in it.

Velvet & Vale, our first style, is a painterly fine-art portrait in the tradition of a classic portrait studio. It is the beginning of a growing collection, some painterly, some photographic, some boldly stylized, so every family can find a look that feels like theirs.

When you are happy, you choose how to keep it: a digital file, a framed fine-art print, gallery canvas, or a hand-painted oil. Our artists produce every fine-art giclée print and hand-paint each oil commission in genuine oil on canvas. Whichever you choose, it is made to anchor a wall today and be handed down long after.
